Belgravia Foundation Shortlisted for Global Futures in Motion Grant
Belgravia Foundation has been shortlisted for the prestigious Futures in Motion grant, a global initiative delivered by Beyond Sport and underwritten by the New Balance Foundation.
Following a successful Stage 1 application, Belgravia Foundation has been invited to submit a full proposal in Stage 2. The Futures in Motion grant supports community organisations delivering sports-based programs that promote Positive Youth Development (PYD), particularly for vulnerable and underrepresented youth. Funded projects are selected for their commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive delivery models that empower young people through physical activity, leadership, education, and employment pathways.
The Youth in Motion initiative, led by Belgravia Foundation, was developed in direct response to insights gained through Belgravia Leisure’s March 2025 Community Network Forums. These forums identified a clear demand for youth-led, locally relevant programs that support physical and social wellbeing, especially for those disconnected from traditional sport.
The initiative will be delivered across 32+ Belgravia Leisure-managed venues and local council areas in South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales. Belgravia Foundation is partnering closely with Belgravia Leisure to support program delivery, access to inclusive spaces, and staff training.
Belgravia Foundation has also confirmed a research partnership with the internationally respected Prevention Education and Research Unit (PERU) at the University of Sydney, developers of the renowned Students as Lifestyle Assistants (SALSA) peer leadership program. This collaboration will strengthen the project’s evidence base and enhance its focus on communication, leadership and team building among youth.
The Youth in Motion model is underpinned by two research-validated behaviour change frameworks:
Theory of Expanded, Extended, and Enhanced Opportunities
Transtheoretical Change Model (Stages of Change)
Each site will host a Youth Community Network Forum to co-design programs that reflect the needs and preferences of local young people. Activities such as mixed-gender sport, dance, or social fitness are shaped by youth and supported by trained local mentors. These mentors play a key role in creating safer, more inclusive environments and establishing pathways to employment.
Importantly, Youth in Motion provides an attractive and inclusive physical activity experience beyond traditional sport, reaching young people who may otherwise be disengaged or excluded from structured participation.
A short video overview of the project has been created, offering a compelling snapshot of the initiative’s aims, model, and intended impact on how Belgravia Foundation is working to place youth at the centre of movement, inclusion, and opportunity.
