Belgravia Foundation and the Centre for Multicultural Youth collaborate to connect South Sudanese communities with the leisure sector

Late last year Belgravia Foundation, Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) and Belgravia Leisure consolidated their collaboration by defining some key initiatives for 2021 to support positive outcomes in community participation and connection for youth of migrant and refugee backgrounds.

The Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Victoria that has been operating for over 30 years. They offer specialist knowledge and support to young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds to ensure they have opportunities to be connected, empowered and influential.

Similar to CMY, Belgravia Foundation and Belgravia Leisure prioritise creating welcoming, safe and inclusive opportunities for participation and cultivating a sense of belonging for EVERYONE in the community through local hubs aligned with community leisure centres.

Some of the initiatives planned between the collaborators for 2021 include:

  • Employment opportunities across Belgravia Leisure venues Melton Waves Leisure Centre, Ascot Vale Leisure Centre and Queens Park Pool, as a prelude to expansion to other venues operated by Belgravia Leisure

  • Participation opportunities in learn to swim and aquatic experiences at discounted rates

  • Cultural events organised and hosted at Melton Waves Leisure Centre and Ascot Vale Leisure Centre to celebrate, share and showcase the vibrant cultures and communities located near these venues

Each of the initiatives are focused initially on connection and breaking down barriers for South Sudanese communities in each of the respective regions. Additional supports and opportunities will be explored and expanded as the needs arise.
